Message from the BCMB Director
Welcome to the BCMB web site!
The mission of the multidisciplinary Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCMB) Graduate Program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is to train independent research scientists for productive careers. Training includes a rigorous and broad-based first year curriculum, research rotations in three different laboratories, a proposal-based qualifying exam (along with a proposal-writing workshop), and thesis research in the laboratory of one of our more than 100 participating faculty members from seven basic science departments. Other features include an annual retreat, the second year Method and Logic course, a student-run research colloquium, career exploration workshops, and a student-invited seminar series. Due to the multidisciplinary focus of the BCMB program, our students are very well prepared for modern biomedical science careers. In addition, the multi-departmental nature of our program promotes the extensive interaction and collegiality that is a hallmark of Johns Hopkins science. Our graduates and current students never cease to amaze me with all they have accomplished!
Whether you are a prospective student, a current student, or a participating faculty member, you can find everything about our BCMB program on this web site.
