Research Topic: Chemical approaches to the study of signal transduction, gene expression, and circadian rhythm.

We use chemical approaches to study cell signal transduction  and gene regulation. We are interested in understanding the basis for substrate selectivity and regulation of protein kinases. We employ substrate analogs, site-directed mutagenesis, protein microarrays, chemical rescue, mass spectrometry, and kinetic methods to elucidate protein kinase-substrate relationships. We are also pursuing the mechanism and inhibition of protein acetylation and histone demethylation. We use a  protein engineering method called expressed protein ligation to elucidate the effects of post-translational modification on protein structure and function.
