Dr. L. Mario Amzel was a professor in the School of Medicine since the 1970s. For the past fifteen years, he was the director of the Biophysics & Biophysical Chemistry department. He served as admissions director in the BCMB program from 1978-1983, mentored many BCMB students in his own laboratory, and for almost 20 years directed the BCMB course in Biophysics and Biophysical Principles. His seminal work in structural biology and his love for the sciences is recognized here at Hopkins and around the world. His presence will be missed.
